Nintendo Announces New Zelda, Mario and Yoshi Games Plus More

Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata and Reggie Fils-Aime have announced a series of new games in their recent video-based press release, Nintendo Direct. The titles include brand new Zelda, Mario & Luigi, Mario Party and Yoshi’s Island games for the Nintendo 3DS. It has also been announced that several classic Nintendo games will be re-released digitally for the Wii U via Nintendo’s online eShop.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2

Possibly the most exciting of all, of today’s announcements is the new, yet still untitled, Zelda game that will be a direct sequel to Super Nintendo classic The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

The new game is set in the same world as the 1992 classic, but will utilize the 3DS’s capabilities to offer more puzzles and gameplay based on differing 2D planes. Link will also be able to turn into a drawing and attach himself to the walls in order to solve certain puzzles.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team

Another title for the Nintendo 3DS, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is a new entry in the popular Mario & Luigi RPG games that have previously appeared on the Nintendo DS and the Game Boy Advance.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team sees Mario having to enter Luigi’s dreams in order to save the Princess from a surreal dream world. Things that happen in the Mushroom Kingdom affect the dream world, and it can be seen that this game will features lots and lots of Luigis.

Yoshi’s Island 3DS

This new instalment in the Yoshi’s Island series looks very similar to previous games, but has new details and a higher resolution that is only achievable with the 3DS. Yoshi must once again travel with and protect Baby Mario as he flutter jumps, ground pounds and egg throws his way through a charming new world. The Nintendo Direct video also showed Yoshi hurling a gigantic egg through the air. Egg-cellent!

Mario Party 3DS

The popular multiplayer party game series Mario Party is hitting the 3DS with 81 new mini games, seven new boards and touch screen and AR card utilization.

Three of the new game boards have been described, the first of which has players pick up cards Monopoly-style that can affect the progress of the player and their opponents. The second board sees each player ride a spaceship that can acquire boosts for big game changing moments. The third board has each player hide from a giant Bullet Bill that can fire at any moment.

Mario Party 3DS will be available this winter on physical cartridge and digitally through the Nintendo eShop.

Coming Soon to the Wii U eShop: Earthbound, Zelda Oracle of Ages & Seasons and More

The Nintendo Direct video wrapped up with the announcement of any more classic games that will be available on the Nintendo eShop shortly.

SNES RPG cult classic Earthbound will be available for download on the Nintendo Wii U by the end of the year. On may 30th, Game Boy Color games the Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and the Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons will also be made available to purchase via the eShop.

Other titles that will be released digitally for the Wii U include Super Metroid, Kirby’s Nightmare in Dreamland, Ice Climbers, Mega Man, F-Zero and many more classic games from the NES and SNES.
