We’re Headed to FanExpo Dallas & Giving Away Some Swag!

5/9/23 is just a few days away and one of the best comic/pop culture cons to hit the Dallas area in a long time is gonna be popping off. It’s a few hours from me and less what, Geek Insider has Press Passes.

That’s right. David King and I are going and not only will be looking for interviews with guests, cos-players, and attendees, if you’re going… well, you should look for US!!

Why? Because we’ve got a couple of REALLY cool things we’re giving away exclusively to a couple of lucky fans!

And I’ll give a small hint… SabersPro!!

Now… let’s see what has David and I Geeking out about going!

Celebrities

Two words – Chevy holy-shit-it’s-Clark-Griswald Chase. Okay that’s seven words but no one told me math would be involved. I’ve been a fan of his since his Saturday Night Live days and it would be an honor to shake his hand and grab a pic. Not to mention nail down an interview.

And get this… Christie Brinkley is coming too! Man oh man… if I get in line for her I guess I better have a spare rag to wipe up all the fanboy drool dripping down on me.

Now… Chevy and Christie are hella cool and I’m definitely stoked to see them. However, there’s a group of special guests attending that are one of the biggest reasons I’m going…

I was lucky enough to come across Clerks right as it released back in 1994 and I’ve been a Kevin Smith loyalist ever since.

And

Every

Single

Star

Is

Coming!!!

Including KEVIN SMITH!!!

If my Geek meter wasn’t already broke, it damn sure would now.

I’m serious. I’m a HUGE Kevin Smily fan.

Mall Rats. Chasing Amy. Everything Jay & Silent Bob were in. Of course the Clerk movies but I even enjoyed Cop Out (which apparently was a bitch to make thanks to an actor that shall remain nameless in this article), Tusk, and Yoga Hosers.

I guess I just like his sense of humor and exceptional creativity.

The other cast members that will be in attendance are Rosario Dawson (also set to star in the upcoming Ahsoka series), Jason Mews, Jeff Anderson, Trevor Fehrman, and none other than Dante himself, Brian O’Halloran.

So far I don’t see any Clerks events that weekend but you can bet your bottom dollar that if there is one, I’m paying to wheel my ass in there.

Now, don’t get me wrong, the View Askew folks are HELLA cool and I’m extremely stoked, but there are a few more guests that has my Geek boner at full mass.

  • Hayden Christensen (Geekout meter overload!! Thankfully he is coming to Dallas and hopefully I can nail down a meet)
  • Charlie Cox – Another one coming to Dallas that I am exceptionally excited for.
  • Jon Bernthal – Oh boy, Frank Castle himself!! The best of the best from Daredevil is gonna be there.
  • Vincent D’Onofrio – SEE!!! Private Pyle no more! The Kingpin is coming!)

David and I are REALLY stoked about the Daredevil crew and we’re probably going to spring for something special with them.

For those that like The Office, Leslie David Baker, Creed Bratton, and Oscar Nuñez are appearing.

Here are a few of the others but once again you’ll want to visit the Fan Expo Dallas website for the full list. Be sure to bookmark it too because you never know when more might be added. It’s still almost 2 months away.

  • Vivien Lyra Blair – Young Leia Organa in Obi-Was Kenobi and as I happen to be one of the ones that thinks she NAILED the role, I’d love to get a few minutes to sit down with her.
  • Sean Gunn – Yeah I know, you know him from Guardians of the Galaxy and while I love him in that, I’m a huge fan of The Belko Experiment and you probably didn’t realize he played both Weasel and Calendar Man in The Suicide Squad. He’s also played a lot of other great roles and maybe if I butter him up enough, he’ll slip me his brother’s phone number.)
  • Henry Winkler – None other than Fonzie himself! I’ve really enjoyed him in The Waterboy, Scream, and other appearances and I think it’d be really cool to get a quick interview with him.
  • Danny Trejo – Machete! ‘Nuff said!

Now you see why I’m determined to go. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Voice Actors

Just the Star Wars talent alone is enough to make most of us a lil giddy.

  • Ashley Eckstein – Not only did she voice Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie and series and the Tales of the Jedi shorts, she also portrayed a live action version of her in The Rise of Skywalker.
  • Matt Lanter – Anakin Skywalker in The Clone Wars.
  • James Arnold Taylor – The Clone Wars – Obi-Wan Kenobi, Plo Koon, Admiral Dao, and Rako Hardeen among others.
  • Dee Bradley Baker – KLAUS!!!! Dude, I watch American Dad all the time and that damn Goldfish steals every scene he’s in. Baker was also in The Bad Batch (lots of roles, including Captain Rex, Clone Troopers, Gregor, Captain Wilco, and more), Young Jedi Adventures (Nubs), Space Jam (holy shit, he was Daffy Duck), Peacemaker (ok not a VoiceOver but he played Eagly), and lots more (including various voices on SpongeBob Squarepants).

Comic Creators at Fan Expo Dallas

Sheeeeeeesh!!!

Marc Silvestri – One of the best known names in modern comics and the only thing that could have made this any better was if Joe Quesada was appearing alongside him.

Sam de la Rosa – I’ve met Sam several times and his Venom artwork is above reproach. In fact, I’ve serious considered commissioning him to design me a tattoo.

There are seriously LOADS of great cover artists, creators, concept artists, illustrators, and other comic creatives going to be in attendance and I don’t mean to diminish their credentials or work by omitting them here, the above were just the two main names that jumped out at me. Be sure to visit the Fan Expo Dallas page for the complete list.

Cosplayers

This list is growing and while I don’t recognize any of them offhand (expect those I encountered in the previous section such as GiveWave Studios and LuckyGrim), it looks like Dallas is going to have some great cosplay talent.

Here are a few of the others that are expected to appear.

Once again, this is just a taste of what’s already slated for Fan Expo Dallas and as it so happens…. GEEK INSIDER WILL BE THERE!!!!

And here it is… one lucky attendee that encounters us at the convention and finds out the secret location to enter will win THEIR choice of a BAD ASS lightsaber (or darksaber like the one I have).

ARE YOU KIDDING ME????

If you haven’t seen how these quality lightsabers from SabersPro look and work, check out this video (but keep in mind that there are a TON of great sabers to choose from and the one in the video is just a simple example).

The winner will be drawn on 6/12 and contacted via email.

And that’s not all…

I’m a HUGE fan of the comic book Shi and her creator, Billy Tucci. On the Geek Speak show a while back, Meredith and I actually interview Billy and he confirmed that I officially have the first Shi tattoo. I had it done right after Shi premiered back in the 90s. That’s how big of a fan I am.

As it so happens, Billy has a new kickstarter campaign for a new omnibus for Shi: Senryaku that just launched today (6/8) ANNNNNND… Billy can’t make it to FanExpo Dallas this year so he’s giving a different attendee a Shi: Way of The Warrior Metal Edition Omnibus!

Soooooo… if you’re going to FanExpo Dallas, you should do your best to find David & I so you can find out how to enter. We’ll be easy to find too. We’ll be wearing bright orange Geek Insider shirts and I’ll be wielding my darksaber from SabersPro while David wheels me around in my wheelchair.

If you’re not going, don’t worry, we here at Geek Insider have more contests coming and I assure you, there’s some great swag there too.
