FanExpo Dallas: A Con for all Cons to Measure By

If you haven’t heard by now, David & Matthew spent the entire weekend at FanExpo Dallas and it’s turning out to be Texas’s biggest convention yet!!! If you’re a Nerd, Geek, or just love pop culture, this is the place to be. As we all know, comic cons can vary GREATLY depending on where you go and what time of year it is but I tell you what, this one is HUGE and covers virtually every aspect of the fandom.

We just got done with day 1 of 3 and HOLY SMOKES, this place is ROCKIN! 

We’ve got a breakdown below of the day and photos of the killer stuff we encountered and be sure to check back for recaps of Saturday and Sunday as well, but if you’re already attending FanExpo Dallas, it’d be advisable to track down Matthew & David. They’re easy to find.. Matthew is in a wheelchair and sporting a killer darksaber from Saberspro, and both guys are wearing orange Geek Insider shirts.

Why would you want to bump into them? So they can tell you how to enter a contest that’s only open to Dallas FanExpo attendees.

And it’s a couple of STUPENDIOUS prizes that Geek Insider is giving away from Saberspro and Billy Tucci. Billy Tucci is the creator of the epic comic series, ‘Shi: Way of the Warrior’ and other Shi series.

If you haven’t already. You should really consider coming on Saturday or Sunday. 

Like collecting celebrity autographs? They have you covered around every corner! There are a ton of celebrities on hand and several great panels scheduled over the weekend.

Love your collectables (looking at you, David!)? There are HUNDREDS of vendors.

The cosplay is CRAZY good!

And of course, one of the best things about comic con is, virtually everyone is cool AF!!! 

We’re hitting as much as we can this weekend but as you’re gonna see, even 3 days might not being enough to see everything at FanExpo Dallas 2023.

Let’s start with David’s favorite reason to visit these conventions, the collectables! David generally seeks out great deals on Marvel and DC statues from great studios like Diamond Select and Sideshow but as you’ll see, there’s literally something for everyone as the choices are virtually endless.

Almost every convention has some good vendors but this one has a *BEEP* ton of great ones. So, if you’re in to collecting any sort of pop culture merch, THIS is the place to be…

 Now these fandoms get pretty crazy, but in a good way. Another great reason to visit these conventions is for the amazing cosplays that are created. These people work blood, sweat, and tears into the painstaking details on these costumes. Each year there are more and more creative and new characters being made to bring to these cons. Here are some of this year’s attendees that we found blew us out of the water. Check out more big name cosplayers on the FanExpo website.

If you like tattoos we have you covered too! With 13 artist listed we are sure you will find someone to do the tattoo you wanted. My Co-host Matthew has even gotten a tattoo from a convention and boy what a memory that was. What I am saying is that why get a tattoo from just a normal day at the tattoo shop?  Some of you may not find the creative physical creations to scratch your itch. If not, try to scratch your literary itch with traveling to a new universe from outstanding writers at these conventions. Each author has booths to display their universe they have put into words, that put images into our minds. We have found some unique writers over our times at conveniences, but the bigger the convention the bigger the possibilities of finding that piece that’s just right for you. 

I hope you can find an adventure within some of these examples we found.

Time for panels! These scheduled events are for people who love their celebrities and might even have questions for them. Boy if there is something you will not regret, it is being able to ask that question you have always wondered to that actor. We can’t wait for this year’s panels and to share with you what we learned. Also check out these events that will be throughout this weekend. That’s just the beginning!

I’ve mentioned before but you can’t give them enough credit, It’s the celebrities. Each convention you attend the more celebrities you will see. As this is Texas’s biggest convention yet, there are a ton of top name celebrities this year. Celebrities are a big part of conventions, and they don’t just attend panels. You can find them doing other things, so don’t worry about missing them. Here are some of the celebrities coming to FanExpo Dallas this year.

 Maybe you don’t collect collectables, read books, know celebrities, but you know what there is for you to like? Artwork, Yes these dedicated artists have created new unique plays on famous fandoms to display in your own home! I have several and have been ecstatic to show all my house guests. You can find a wide variety of artwork at these conventions, such as wooden items, pictures, paintings, cosplay, and anything and everything in between. Yes, artists make all kinds of things. The question is which one will you pick? 

What is there not to enjoy! If you are on the fence about going, trust me it is worth it. I have had some amazing experiences at conventions and knowing that I also am helping local businesses is just a cherry on top. If all this didn’t convince you to go. Think about the wonderful people you will meet. They are some of the most open and caring people you will find.
