Extraction

The Russo Brothers, Chris Hemsworth and Netflix’s Extraction Is Here to Bring You Gratuitous Violence

What happens when you put Anthony, Joe Russo, Chris Hemsworth, and Netflix together? The result that comes out of the collaboration is not a feel good superhero movie, but a gritty and sometimes dark action flick that leaves you at the edge of your seat.

Want to know more? That’s exactly how Netflix’s Extraction aims you to feel throughout its runtime.

What is Netflix Extraction All About?

At the surface, this Russo Brothers plus Chris Hemsworth Netflix may look like just a Marvel reunion. The ensemble cast includes Hemsworth and David Harbour, after all – with the former being the titular star of the Thor franchise and the latter sporting a main role in the upcoming Black Widow

But the Extraction cast is much more than what it offers at first glance. With prominent Indian actors such as Randeep Hooda, Manoj Bajpayee, and Pankaj Tripathi, as well as Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani, it is one of Netflix’s most ambitious casting to date that appeals to multiple target markets of the streaming giant.

Without giving too much away from the action-centric plot of the Extraction movie, it is safe for you to learn that the story revolves around Tyler Rake (Hemsworth), a mercenary who is given the task of saving the son of a disgraced yet still powerful drug lord from India. With the task of extraction in his mind, Rake sets out to Bangladesh only to get embroiled in a sinister plot involving crime lords, drug dealers, and a whole lot of violence.

Yes, if there’s one thing that you will walk away with after watching Extraction on your TV screen, it’s the gratuitous violence that the movie has to offer. In fact, the action flick relies too much on its impeccable stunts to actually give audiences time to digest its complex storyline. While Hemsworth is quite believable as the broody Rake, the one-dimensional character doesn’t do the actor’s overall talents any justice.

To summarize, what Netflix achieves in Extraction’s stellar casting, it loses in its stylized execution. If you want to watch an action movie that goes from zero to 100 pretty quick and doesn’t come down from that pace until the very end, Extraction might be a good title to add to your watch list. Otherwise, you can sit this one out without any regrets.

Released on April 24, Extraction is currently streaming worldwide over Netflix.
