Geek Girl Fashion: Geeky Wedding Party Fashion

Hello again, geeky fashionistas! My greatest hope is that you enjoyed the last column and that you’re hungry for more. Let’s talk weddings, shall we? Many couples nowadays are looking to put their own personal spin on their nuptials. Some people theme their weddings while others do cosplay (and sorry, but this is my personal favorite of those- go big or go home, as they say and nothing’s bigger than the King and Queen of All Cosmos). The possibilities really are endless. Whatever that means for you and your honey, the most important thing is that you enjoy your special day!

When it comes to geek girl fashions, we’re usually looking for the way to implement your interests into your clothing with subtle hints. But weddings are rather big and glorious, so if you decide to go above and beyond, absolutely do it! Here are just a few geek fashion ideas for your wedding party to get you going. So off we go…

Geeky Wedding Party Fashions

Do you hope to infuse your wedding with a little tech, fandom, and geeky fun? Then think about how exciting it’ll be to give your bridesmaids and groomsmen adorable accessories that highlight your interests and those of your significant other. There are lots of ways to put geek into your wedding party fashions, so start dreaming up ideas!

Groom and Groomsmen Fashion

The guys usually rent their tuxes, so it can feel like there aren’t a lot of options here to get creative and geeky. But depending on your groom and his interests, you can always give the guys a little subtle flair.

Cufflinks are a great way to have the groomsmen display the groom’s love for comics, Star Wars, or anything else, really. Etsy has a ton of cute, geeky cufflinks. Or if your wedding is themed more romantically, get these Mr. Darcy cufflinks for the groom. They’re a little more subtle and they’re perfect for the book nerd’s wedding. Also, if you’re a Potterhead, consider getting each of the guys his house tie. It would be a nice gift for your groomsmen and will add a pop of color to the pictures.

A secret superhero theme like in the pic above is also cute (personally, I’d lose the hats though, but everyone’s different). You can get costume tees here. It’s fun for when you want some geeked-out pics as well as other more traditional ones.

Bridesmaid Fashions

Geek girl bridesmaids will often be more than happy to help you complete a theme or just rock a really neat dress! These comic book dresses are adorable for bridesmaids, and more than cool in pictures.

If you’re a movie buff, have your friends wear begonia as a nod to the film Bridesmaids. Or whatever color scheme your favorite wedding movie has. It won’t be obvious to everyone but it’ll be fun for you!

For shoes, why not do a grown-up version of Sakura Kinomoto’s adorable red clogs from Cardcaptor Sakura? Or just get the cosplay shoes. That or let everybody go comfy in these Legend of Zelda flats! (The seller has a ton of different adorable shoes that range from Sailor Moon to brains. You know, for your zombie themed wedding.)

And these Lord of the Rings hair accessories might be just the right amount of subtle for you. But don’t let everybody fight about who gets to be Gandalf!

Bride Fashions

All right, girl. This is your geek wedding day and it’s your moment to shine!

One of the best geeky wedding dresses I can imagine wanting to emulate is Leslie Knope’s homemade, paper skirt wedding dress from Parks and Recreation. It’s adorable and, in theory, you can make something like it yourself with pictures and whatever else that is meaningful to you.

But make your wedding dress’s nod to your geekery as big or as simple as you want. Tie a red ribbon around your neck if you don’t want to go all out and do Lydia’s red wedding dress from Beetlejuice. Or buy a princess dress if it makes you feel like Buffy. Do whatever your heart desires as that’s what you’re doing anyway by marrying your perfect partner. (Okay, so maybe he or she leaves the milk out once and a while, but hopefully you’re not thinking about that today…)

Iron man garter, geeky wedding party fashion

Don’t forget about what to wear under your gorgeous dress: Etsy seller Scarboroughrose makes the most amazing fandom garters. There’s Marvel, DC, Disney, and more! And don’t forget your geeky panties that you and your new spouse can giggle about afterwards.

Also, there are about a million neat shoes you can put on your feet! Like these Victorian heels which are way cool and will still look classy in pics.

Geeky wedding party fashion, captain america

Or who cares? Go for these not-so-subtle Captain America heels. Try and tell me you don’t want them! And if you’re still thinking about your hair, consider making yourself these 8-bit hair accessories with the tutorial. You will look sexy, stylish, and beautiful. What’s not to love?

The thing about your geeky wedding fashions is to take them as far as you want: be subtle if you just want to give a little nod to the geekiness you share with your significant other, or go all out and have a Harry Potter, Star Wars, or The Rocky Horror Picture Show-themed wedding! It’s totally up to you. These are just some ideas to get you started. Until next time, friends!
