Built inside an active engineering organization, AgentOS aims to keep human developers and AI agents aligned without pulling them away from the tools they already use.

AI coding assistants have created an odd new problem for engineering teams: everyone can move faster, yet the project can still drift off course.

A developer using Claude Code might complete a task in a fraction of the usual time. Another engineer may be working just as quickly on a related feature. Meanwhile, several agents could be making their own choices about architecture, documentation, testing, or implementation. Each contribution may appear reasonable in isolation, but parallel speed can create conflicting assumptions, duplicated work, and decisions that no longer support the same objective.

Port33 built AgentOS around that distinction. Productivity is about how quickly one person or agent works. Coordination is about whether the entire team remains pointed in the same direction.

When Faster Work Creates More Decisions

Agentic development changes more than output volume. It also increases the number of decisions being made across a project.

That creates a practical challenge for teams experimenting with agentic AI. You may have several capable contributors producing code, reviewing files, or planning next steps, but someone still needs to track how those actions fit together. Traditional project-management systems often sit outside the coding environment, requiring developers to document work in one place while carrying it out somewhere else.

AgentOS takes an IDE-native approach instead. According to Port33, it works with VS Code and Claude Code and can be deployed on Google Cloud Platform. The intent is to add coordination within a developer’s existing workflow rather than asking the team to adopt another disconnected dashboard.

This design choice took considerable engineering work, but it reflects how the product began. AgentOS was created by practitioners dealing with a coordination problem inside their own team, not as a concept developed around an industry trend.

Tested Before It Went Public

Harsh Agarwal, a partner at Port33, led the engineering team behind AgentOS. Before releasing it as one of the growing number of open-source AI tools, Agarwal and the Pilot Wave engineering team used the system in their own operations.

The internal deployment reportedly surfaced misalignments earlier than the team’s previous workflow. Problems that might otherwise have remained unnoticed for days could be identified while work was still underway. That experience helped convince the team to release the project publicly in July 2026.

Keeping Up Without Reading Everything

AgentOS also addresses another familiar developer headache: keeping up with every meaningful update across AI models, frameworks, research, and developer tooling.

Port33 says the system includes agents that continuously monitor relevant developments and bring selected updates into the platform. Instead of expecting every engineer to follow dozens of repositories, release notes, and technical discussions, the coordination layer surfaces information that may affect the team’s work.

That function places AgentOS among AI engineering tools designed to manage both context and code. The objective is not simply to tell you that something changed. It is to make useful developments available where technical decisions are already being made.

Building an Open Coordination Standard

Afsheen Afshar brings experience in neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and investment to Port33, while Agarwal contributes the engineering perspective that shaped the product itself. Together, they are positioning open-source participation as central to AgentOS rather than as an optional distribution strategy.

The team wants developers to test the system, examine how it works, contribute improvements, and adapt it to real project conditions.

That community model could also help clarify what effective GitHub AI coordination looks like as human and autonomous contributors increasingly share responsibility for software development.

AgentOS begins with a straightforward premise: making every contributor faster solves only part of the engineering problem. The harder task is keeping all that work connected to a single shared goal.
