We Tested a Couple of Cool Gadgets & Think You’ll Like Them… a LOT

I get offered a LOT of products for review and to be honest, I turn down way more than I accept. While getting free stuff is always nice, it has to be something that really interests me or is one that I will have an actual use for before I agree. Especially since I don’t really have a lot of time to write up the reviews.

That being said, a couple of weeks ago I was offered two particular products that caught my eye. One is definitely Geeky and the other is a gadget that we’re definitely in love with.

Check ’em out

Roto Brain

No, it’s not a round Rubik’s cube ripoff. This unique 3D puzzle sphere from Creative Brainworks that challenges you to figure out the color combination of each level. It sort of works like a combination lock – you spin it clockwise two turns and stop on the first color you want, counter-clockwise past that first one until you get to your second choice, and then clockwise straight to your final choice.

If you get it right, the “button” on top pops out and you can move to the next level to repeat the process and then on to the final one. Unless you’re like me and not able to make it past the first one.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s apparently not an impossible feat because after about a week picking it up here and there trying to crack the code myself, my wife grabbed it and solved the whole thing in about five minutes.

I don’t know if she just got lucky or if Roto Brain hated me but we reset it and I STILL haven’t been able to get past the first level.

Oh well, it’s fun and I can definitely see kids spending hours working away at deciphering the code and it’s perfect for any passengers on those long road trips this summer.

Drinkmate

Okay, this is one that I didn’t think I’d have much use for but my wife said we should try it out and I’m REALLY glad she did. Drinkmate let’s you carbonate your water or any other drink and I have to say, we’ve had some fun testing it out. My wife drinks a lot of bottled water and juice and I usually have a bottle once in a while with a Propel flavor packet added and as it turned out, all the above are PERFECT for carbonation via the Drinkmate.

It’s SUPER easy to setup and only takes a minute or two to give your favorite drink a bit of fizz. My wife really enjoys using it on fruit punch but personally it’s the Propel sugar-free grape flavoring that is the favorite of both of us. It tastes just like a Welch’s grape soda and I’ve probably drank more water in the past week than I have all year. It’s that good.

We also like the orange flavoring but the carbonated lemon just wasn’t our cup of tea. Speaking of which, using it on iced tea was really, really good and while I haven’t gotten to try them yet, Drinkmate also has Premium Italian Syrups with flavors like Blood Orange, Ginger & Lemon, Pink Grapefruit, and several others that sound really delicious.

The large CO2 cylinder also appears last a good while. I’m not sure how many uses you actually get out of it on average but we’ve used it every day and it seems to still be pretty full. The Drinkmate is available in a variety of stylish colors and you can exchange cylinders or purchase various kits to suit your needs.

I never would have tried this had they not asked me to check it out and I’m really glad they did. I’m going to try it on some flat soda (I drink a LOT of Dr Pepper) and my wife said she wants to carbonate some wine. Who knows what we’ll Drinkmaterize next.

Not a Gadget, But…

I had never tried Old Trapper’s Beef ‘n Cheese Zero Sugar Snack Sticks but since my wife is a diabetic and we both really like these kind of snacks, we decided to give them a shot. One side has a delicious smoked beef stick and the other is a slice of creamy American cheese and I loved the beef stick and while I wasn’t a fan of the cheese, I’m not really a cheese person and my wife liked it just fine. These are perfect for a mid-afternoon snack, road food for that summer trip, or while you’re working to solve the Roto Brain.

Check out the above products and if you already have a Drinkmate, leave us a note below telling us your favorite beverages to carbonate.
