The Things I Do For Love — And Musical Parodies…

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Apollo Theater Chicago. All opinions are 100% mine.

UndefinedWhat do dragons, mass amounts of murder, and White Walkers have in common? Well, it’s not snappy and entertaining show tunes, that’s for sure, but that didn’t stop the creative team behind Baby Wants Candy and 50 Shades! The Musical ParodyThrones! The Musical Parody is an awesome blend of twenty-one original songs encompassing the entire six seasons of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Buzz News Chicago called it a “thoroughly entertaining event.” The production features an all-Chicago cast including such as Caitlyn Cerza, Nick Druzbanski, Madeline Lauzon, Beau Nolen, Victoria Oliver and Nick Semar as more than forty characters from the TV show Thrones! The Musical Parody also recently announced its second extension, now playing through January 15, 2017. Tickets ($39 – $59) can be purchased at the Apollo Theater Box Office by calling 773.935.6100 or visiting Ticketmaster.com.

The Hilarity Ensues

UndefinedThrones! The Musical Parody debuted to a completely sold out performance at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It was called “darkly humorous and beautifully vulgar” by the Edinburgh Festival Magazine (so obviously Tyrion would approve!) and a “resounding success” by the Sunday Times Scotland. This was followed by a sold out performance and limited run at London’s Leicester Square Theatre. Then in its summer preview, run in Chicago, it was a huge hit and “had the audience falling off their chairs” (Chicago Reader). The play spotlights a groups of friends who have gathered together for the season finale of the Game of Thrones, only to find out that one of the friends has never watched the show. Over the course of the next ninety minutes, the other friends act out all six seasons to catch him up. This includes harrowing battles against White Walkers, sexy women riding fire-breathing dragons, and the nasty Walk of Shame.

Get Your Costumes On!

UndefinedWhat could make a musical parody of Game of Thrones even better? A costume contest, that’s what. The Apollo Theater Chicago (2540 N. Lincoln Ave, in case you don’t know) announced a one night only Halloween performance and costume contest on Monday, October 31st. So go on and put on your best Halloween get-up. The contest will be judged by cosplay group leaders from Geeks A-Go-Go, AllGeeks, and Geeks HQ, as well as the cast from Thrones!. If you are judged to have the best digs this side of Westeros, not only will you not have to endure the Walk of Shame but you’ll also get $200 in gold – er, prizes – from local vendors. This Halloween performance will take place at 7:30pm, so get your Tickets now!

Eat Like Ramsey Snow

Before you go to the show, you can grab dinner at the Bavarian beer hall, Prost! (2566 N. Lincoln Ave.) While we can’t promise it won’t turn out like the Red Wedding, we can promise that you’ll get 10% off your pre-show meal! Totally worth the risk!

Get Ready to Party Like a Redwyne!

Remember to show up at the theater by 7pm so you can show off your costume with the other guests. The show starts at 7:30pm and after, three judges from Chiacgoland’s leading cosplay groups will pick the winner from each category including “Best in Show,” “Best Couple Costume” (I suggest Hodor and a door!), “Best Group Costume,” and “Judge’s Favourite.” Out of these top winners, the cast of Thrones! will pick the overall winner and that person will receive the grand prize. After all that, get your costume booty back to Prost! For the official after-party with drink specials.
