Peter Capaldi on the Upcoming Season of Doctor Who

With the newest season of Doctor Who quickly approaching, its surprising that there has been little revealed about the 12th Doctor or about what lies in store for Season 8. However Peter Capaldi, the man portraying the 12th Doctor, has been recently interviewed by The Sunday Times and has shed some light on the newest incarnation of the Doctor.

Who is this New Doctor?

Capaldi started off describing the Doctor’s new style, at least with his clothing. The new wardrobe is more “stark” and that he considered is as “quite a hard look. I always wanted him to be in black – I always just saw the Doctor in dark colors.” Capaldi also stated that he does agree with Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss’s description of the newest Doctor: that he’s  older, tricker, fiercer and has a sense of madness in his eyes. However Capaldi also stated that even though he has a more serious demeanor that he does have a softer, more joyful side.

Definitely No Flirting

Capaldi stated that there is definitely no flirting between him and his co-star Jenna Coleman, who is about thirty years younger than he is, in this season, something definitely new compared to the past couple season featuring Matt Smith where he was either flirting with Karen Gillian or Coleman. During the interview Capaldi said that “There’ll be no flirting, that’s for sure. It’s not what this Doctor’s concerned with. It’s quite a fun relationship, but no, I did call and say ‘I want no Papa-Nicole moments.’ I think there was a bit of tension with that at first, but I was absolutely adamant.” So it seems that there were some issues about this decision to not have a possible romantic connection between Capaldi and Coleman, still its good to see that some changes are coming to the new season.

Speaking of changes, when asked about what made this upcoming season unique and different from the ones previous Capaldi answered that this season will have more somber and dramatic feel to its scenes. Capaldi carefully stated that the “breathless vigor” of the previous seasons will definitely be there, but in a different form. Personally this seems that this season might be returning to the style of the seasons of the 9th Doctor, played by the utterly “fantastic” Christopher Eccleston, with a Doctor who has a joyful side but also a darker and more tortured core. Still that’s just an assumption, but as an avid fan of Series 1 of Doctor Who, there is a lot of potential for this season to be a fantastic addition to the long and illustrious history of Doctor Who. With only a couple weeks left until the first episode of the new seasons premiers, August 23rd, lets hope that more light might be shone on this mysterious new Doctor and his adventures.
