As film, television, music, and video game lovers we tend to collect tons of memorabilia over time. Action figures, cool gadgets, DVDs and the king of all geek stuff, our posters. For many, the poster was our first tiptoe into the world of obsessive collecting. Maybe it started with an Animaniacs poster as a child or maybe it was Schwarzenegger’s mean mug on a poster for Terminator. Whatever your introduction, there is a poster for everyone’s wall.

When decorating with movie posters, there are a couple directions you can take. There is the option of following a theme, whether that theme be film noir, grungy bands posters, or pop culture posters designed with similar color schemes.  Or there is the other side of the coin where the only rhyme or reason is your love for each individual poster. Follow your instincts, and have fun with it. Even if you aren’t quite an interior design person, throwing a few posters up here and there will at least give off the impression of effort. And you may find that you like it more than expected.

The Adventures of Tintin

This movie poster is a favorite of mine for many reasons. For you though, it could be the nostalgia of a childhood hero or the simple fact that this is a super great film. There is a true epic feel with the giant ship in the background, but also a sweetness with Tintin and Snowy. It’s inspiring to see best buds on such a grand adventure. The colors in this design make for a great decor foundation, as well. It works, I know from experience. Cough cough, my living room, ahem.

Sideways

Not only was Sideways an intro into cinephilia for many movie goers, but it has a freakin’ awesome poster design. Even if there isn’t a trace of lime green in your home, wardrobe, or on the street where you live this poster belongs. The pop color color is cool, sure, but this movie is amazing and your knowledge of fantastic films will be appreciated by those who visit.

Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark

For those who prefer a painted piece, looks no further than the terribly talented Drew Struzan. His work includes films you just may recognize like Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Back to the Future and Rambo. The Raiders of the Lost Ark poster in particular is really remarkable with the collage of characters and the eye-candy worthy Harrison Ford focused in the center.

Little Miss Sunshine

Although the film definitely touches on some darker issues, Little Miss Sunshine is a lighthearted ride with a lighthearted poster. It presents one of the most memorable scenes from the movie, while also including all of the major characters without any editing. The composition is unique, and that yellow is a strong focal point.

Ghostbusters

The Ghostbusters poster is the best when it comes to multitasking. It works perfectly with the ever popular red and black color scheme, it shows off your love for all things supernatural, and it even has the ability to keep those pesty spirits away wen you’re too busy to deal with them,

We all have our own personal style as humans, and as geeks. You can have your place filled with secret spy gear or sneak up on them with ninja moves, but if you’re doing it correctly, nobody will ever know. Hanging posters is a great way to present yourself to your friends and family as the total geek that you truly are, while covering up that coffee stain you’ve been meaning to scrub off for months now.
