How To Count Characters in Microsoft Excel
Unlike Microsoft Word, which has a tool to count characters in the document, Excel requires using the LEN function to get the character count. Here is the process.
How To Use The LEN Function To Count Characters In Excel.
- Click the cell where you want to show the character count.
- Type =LEN(cell).
The “cell” represents the actual cell with the characters. So, if you want the character count of cell B1, you’d enter =LEN(B1).
3. Click on other spaces, and the character count will appear automatically.
4. Alternatively, you can copy the entire content of cell B1.
5. Paste it in the formula
=LEN(“How many characters are in this cell?”)
6. Be sure to put it in quotation marks, as shown below.
