I Finally Have a Great Sounding Surround Sound System

Yes, I am definitely a Geek. There’s no denying it. BUT.. I’m not much of a tech-Geek. Aside from a smart TV, phone, and a couple of gaming systems, my Geekness tends to lean more toward comics, movies, games (both board and video), and staying informed on Geeky things.

So, it should come as no surprise when I say that I didn’t add a sound bar to my TV until a couple of years ago and STILL had it until a few weeks ago. Part of the reason was my wife refuses to have wires running all over the walls and while I knew that there were some killer wireless surround sound systems available, I’m a little lazy and just never took the time to figure out which one I wanted/needed. Additionally, I’m not very skilled at setting up that type of stuff and usually bribe my buddy into doing it for me.

Well, when I was offered the chance to check out the Platin Monaco 5.1 system and WiSA SoundSend bundle and it was advertised as “simple to set up,” it sounded like it would solve both of my problems. So I decided to give it a go.

And I’m honestly glad I did.

As soon as I unboxed it, I knew I was in for a treat. It was packed perfectly and every component was protected as well as possible from damage. The instructions were also right on top, which is always a plus for my tech-challenged self. Then, as soon as I pulled the first speaker out, I knew this was going to be a quality product.

Sure, I knew that each speaker is WiSA certified and individually and collectively Tuned by THX, but I could immediately tell that they aren’t cheap speakers that are going to vibrate and sound crappy. And I tell you, that first impression wasn’t wrong.

I LOVE this system.

Now, I have to say that while this system is SUPER easy to set up, I still had issues with it but it’s not a manufacturing issue. Generally, you simply set up the speakers in your desired areas, plug them in, then plug in the SoundSend and connect it to your Smart TV. Unfortunately, things are never that simple for me.

My smart TV doesn’t have HDMI inputs (not very “smart” is it?) and I have to use a hub for all of my peripherals. Well… I get it all set up like I want, plug everything in, change the sound source on my TV, and…. nothing.

<insert angry emoji here>

I wasn’t mad at the system nor the company… I knew it was something I was missing. However, this mishap gave me insight into their tech support. They were immediately on top of this and to their credit, they were very patient with a guy that couldn’t even tell them what brand of TV he has. Let alone explain the whole hub hookup.

See, I told you I’m not very good at that stuff and my buddy usually sets up this kind of thing for me. He is the one that actually set up the hub thingie in the first place.

Needless to say, with me not being available that much, having some health issues, and my aforementioned tech-challenged nature, they weren’t able to get me rolling.

Enter my buddy.

Now, you may be thinking that he had to climb behind the TV, switch the speakers around, or fix a mess I made with the connection but nope, it was much more simple than that. It wasn’t as easy as just turning on a switch that I missed but all it did take was selecting the right damn audio option on my TV.

Was a total P.I.C.N.I.C. (problem in chair, not in computer.. or in surround sound system as in this case).

So yes, it’s extremely easy to get this surround sound system set up. As long as you’re smarter than your Smart TV. But to my credit, I did get everything wired and placed right at least.

Okay, but how does it sound?

I took a few weeks to test drive this sucker for a couple of reasons. One, I wanted to really check it out before writing this up. Two, my wife doesn’t let me listen to it above like a level 50 and I wanted to experience the actual theater experience.

So I waited and once again, I’m glad I did.

This past weekend, she went out of town and I had the perfect opportunity to really give this sucker a test drive.

I picked out my movie – Top Gun. It was the first movie I ever saw on DVD and figured it was appropriate to christen my newfound home theater with it.

HOLY SMOKES!

‘Highway to the Danger Zone’ started and my jaw dropped. The sound was… perfect. I’m serious, it was like I was in a movie theater and had the best acoustically-placed Sheldon-esque seat in the house.

The movie started and It was so crisp and clear that my dogs perked up at doors opening, chuffed at dogs barking, and went looking around when birds chirped. Needless to say, I’ve used YouTube videos to really mess with them but my wife and I have checked out quite a few different shows and movies and really enjoy the Platin Monaco 5.1 system and WiSA SoundSend bundle.

And when she’s not home, I really put its capabilities to use.

Look, as I said, I don’t know much about these types of things but I do know when I like something and I truly do like this system. It’s really easy to set up (for everyone but me) and the sound is absolutely fantastic

I’m definitely not the only one that thinks this and you can check out the great reviews, see the system specs, order yours today and have a great-sounding system that you’re virtually guaranteed to love.
