Boston Dynamics has officially been purchased. Why do we care? Because they are famous for one thing only – making Metal Gear reminiscent military robots.
Google Buys Military Robot Manufacturer
The New York Times is reporting that Google is mum on why they have purchased Boston Dynamics, and have simply cited that such a merger will add to their in-house robotics credibility.
Of course it will, Google. The weird part about this whole arrangement is that Boston Dynamics is still under contract with the US military’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), which is what robots, like the one pictured above, were manufactured for.
Strangely enough, that puts trusty old Google in a military contractor position, at least for now, while the contract is honored. The company, however, says it has no business staying in the field once those obligations are fulfilled.
