2014 Oscar Winners’ Embarrassing Roles

Hollywood kept it glitzy Sunday night with the 86th annual Academy Awards. And although most of the moviegoing population viewed less of the nominated material than ever, plenty of people tuned in to the broadcast making the ceremony the most watched Oscars in a decade at 43 million viewers. Partly due to the fabulous Ellen Degeneres and partly because we all wanted to see if J-Law would trip again (which she did).

With Matthew beating out poor Leo, and Cate Blanchett thanking Woody Allen in her speech, this year had it’s surprises, but aside from Travolta’s name blunder, nothing too terribly embarrassing occurred. The most interesting happenings were found in the totally awkward speeches between the presenters. Who puts these people together, anyway?

With the excitement from the broadcast winding down, I thought I’d share some of my more hilarious finds when it comes to these uber-talented Oscar-adorned stars. I had to do a little digging, but the effort was worth the outcome. If only they had shown these during the ceremony.

Matthew McConaughey

Mm

This 2014 Best Actor winner hasn’t had the most glamorous career. With movies including Surfer, Dude; Fool’s Gold; and Sahara under his belt, Matthew’s history is a bit of a mixed bag. But his role in Dallas Buyer’s Club recently earned him his own much deserved golden man (sorry, Leo). If you need a bit of a pick-me-up after a Dallas Buyer’s Club viewing, take a look at Matthew’s earlier work with the great Trisha Yearwood.  McConaughey portrays Joe, Mr. Suave himself with a tendency for trouble. Not too unlike his past romantic comedy roles.

Cate Blanchett

Long before her glamorous Galadriel days, Cate was a simple young actress trying her best to make it in show business. Where do most actors start out? That’s right. Television commercials. This beauty landed a gig with the tasty biscuit brand, Tim Tam, in the mid 90’s and here it is in all of it’s glory. Congrats on your Oscar, Cate, and congrats on the lifetime supply of Tim Tams, as well.

Jared Leto

Jared leto

For those who may not know, Jared Leto is a rock star. A rock God, some would say. This fact leaves us with little opportunity for embarrassment, as his life and work are laid out on the table for all to see. After a little digging (honestly not too difficult with his new movie-going fan following) I ran into this lovely image of young Jared with some calla lilies. Such a beauty.

And then there is the stunning Lupita Nyong’o, new on the scene with absolutely no scratches or dents on her record to speak of. The closest to embarrassing out there on the interwebs is a video titled “Lupita tells Letterman about sucking her thumb” when in fact Lupita mentions sucking her thumb at three years old. …How scandalous…. Really, she’s an angel.

Oscar

While we often hear of the scandalous stories of the stars’ personal lives, some of their histories are more embarrassing than anything. Never judge a book by its cover, and remember the giggles are worth a little digging to find out where today’s favorite celebs began. They’ve found their way to the top, but they all started at the bottom, and if we’re lucky… there’s photographic evidence.
