Whether you call them retro or classic, there are a few games that totally resisted the test of time and keep going strong even today. Even more, they’re so popular that you can find them in a wide range of formats (console or PC games, mobile games, or browser games).

But, given the increased degree of accessibility, today we’re going to talk about browser games that are just as popular today as they were when they first launched on the market. Just to be clear, most of the titles listed below are a variation of the original game, but it shows that the initial idea had a lot of value.

Racing Games

Almost everyone loves the idea of driving a high-speed car on a racing course, but very few of us get to actually do it in real life. Luckily, we have lots of racing video games that can supplement a facsimile of the experience.

Even better, you get to drive a wide range of vehicles, on famous race tracks from all around the world. Of course, you can even create your own track or try unusual ones – after all, the sky is your limit.

Titles like Need for Speed, Mario Kart, F-Zero GX, or Road Rash are still popular today and they provided the ground for amazing browser games in the genre. For instance, you can play here a wide range of car games derived from some of the coolest games ever!

Sports Games

Whether we’re talking about football, baseball, soccer, basketball, or wrestling, sports games are extremely popular nowadays. In fact, we have entire franchises that started in the early years of video gaming.

A great example is the FIFA franchise, that started in 1993 and is going strong since. But there are other titles that are quite popular today like Mortal Kombat, WWF Wrestlemania, or Madden. While neither of these titles can be played in a browser, there are lots of cool soccer games you can try in your free time.

First Person Shooters

It’s not clear why people enjoy FPS games so much, but it’s clear that the genre is extremely well-received by many gamers. Many enjoy the idea of holding a gun (even if it’s in a virtual world) and shooting it, while others just enjoy the adrenaline rush.

Regardless of your motivation, you must remember cool retro games like Call of Duty, which is still appealing to today’s gamers. True, gamers today play an improved version, but the developer kept the original idea.

Other cool FPS games are DOOM, Alien versus Predator, Marathon and more. Some of these old-timers are still available to play in browser (like Wolfenstein 3D), but you can also find some really challenging First Person Shooter games designed to offer the same experience.

Wrap Up

At the end of the day, we can all agree that there are some pretty cool games you can play in the browser! And, since many are derived from old titles that are still popular, you’re pretty much guaranteed the fun and excitement.
