Or is Godzilla a female? We’ll have to ask our new resident Godzilla expert to reveal the answer but either way, this year is bringing a lot of cool things to help celebrate our radiation-breathing protector/sometimes enemy’s anniversary. While we all know that the new Godzilla x Kong is coming this year but there’s some news today that some of you are going to be really excited about.
Today, Toho International announced Godzilla and Santa Cruz Skateboards are teaming up for an epic collection featuring bold, graphic skate deck designs that will be released just in time to celebrate the King of the Monsters’ 70-year reign this November.
Santa Cruz is known for taking the extra step in its pop culture collaborations, and their Godzilla line is no exception. The limited-edition line will include eight skateboard deck designs, including a monster-sized deck (11’’ x 32’’) that is the largest skate deck Santa Cruz has ever made, complete with a unique shape resembling Godzilla’s skin texture. For this collaboration, Santa Cruz tapped some of their favorite Artists to reimagine the classic graphics of Corey O’Brien, Tom Knox, Rob Roskopp, and Natas Kaupas, based on the original artwork by Jim Phillips, in a variety of iconic styles inspired by iterations of Godzilla through the years, from Shin Godzilla to Mechagodzilla, and more.
The collection is rounded out with a selection of apparel including tees, hats, and hoodies, plus a sticker pack with the skate deck artwork in sticker form. The full product line will hit retail in November 2024, just in time to celebrate Godzilla’s 70th anniversary and Godzilla Day. You can find more information on the line here.
