Well, Geeks and Geekettes, it is that time of year. The sneezing, the coughing, the chills and sometimes even worse; that’s right, it’s cold and flu season! Try as we might, there are really only a few limited ways to stop the spread of germs. You can wash your hands, and perhaps cover your mouth when you cough and sneeze, but aside from constantly bleach-wiping your environment over and over, there really isn’t much you can do…or is there?
When the Fellowes AeraMax DX55 Air Purifier arrived in our office for review, I was pretty excited! I opened the box and pulled the unit out. Much to my pleasure, the unit required no assembly at all and was basically ready to go right out of the box, aside from having to remove a piece of plastic from the filter (which took about 3 seconds). After removing the plastic, I replaced the filter as per the directions and switched the unit on. The AeraMax DX55 has its own pedestal, making it a standalone unit that will not take up precious counter, table, or desk space. Although it is a relatively large unit, it is sleek and unobtrusive, making it the perfect addition to any office or home.
Upon powering it up, the unit displayed a blue back-lit control panel. This panel allows users to control the fan speed, as well as adjust the various modes according to whether or not cold and flu season is at hand. There really is not a lot of adjusting that needs to be done, however, because the unit has a built in sensor that detects the air quality and adjusts the fan speed accordingly.
I expected the unit, based on its size, to be at least audible, but throughout the day I found myself walking by the AeraMax DX55 questioning, “Is this thing on?” It certainly was, it is just insanely quiet, which is awesome.
I began reading up on exactly how the AeraMax DX55 could protect our environment from cold and flu viruses. It’s pretty incredible, actually. The unit sports a special mode called ‘Aera+’ that increased the air filtering rate of the purifier by 50%! This means that more air is purified in a shorter time, keeping your environment cleaner and healthier. This feature, coupled with the True HEPA and carbon filter, makes for a purified environment that reduces the risk of contracting a virus. Exactly what we need during these peak illness months!
After running the AeraMax DX55 all day in a 200 square foot space, there was a distinctly noticeable difference in the air quality of that space, versus other areas of the office. Not only was the stale odor of the room removed, but (as weird as this sounds) it was much more pleasant to sit and work in the room with the air purifier than elsewhere in the office.
After spending a day in the office with the AeraMax DX55, I would highly reccomend the unit to anyone who wants to live a healthier life by breathing cleaner air. Not only can you smell the difference when you walk into a room that has been purified by the AeraMax, but the peace of mind that comes with having a double-filter cleaning the air you breathe is priceless.
If you would like to protect your family from the impending cold and flu season, or if you would just like to make the air that you breathe healthier, the Fellowes AeraMax™ DX-55 can be purchased at a variety of retailers including Wal-Mart, Amazon, and Best Buy.com, starting at $189.99.
