5 of the Best Netflix Series to Watch During Quarantine

Many countries have passed legislation forcing people to self-quarantine until the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic settles down. And while some businesses and cities are opening back up, the majority of us are still stuck inside, waiting for the dust to settle. But we don’t need to be bored in quarantine—not when we have Netflix!

There are plenty of shows to watch on Netflix to pass the time, and I want to share with you my personal favorites. And before we get into it, I know what some of you are probably thinking: what if these shows aren’t available in my country? Don’t worry! With a proper Netflix VPN, you can watch any show, anytime, no matter where you are.

1. Ozark

The Synopsis

Ozark is what I would describe as the ultimate thriller on TV right now. Well, the second best thriller, with Better Call Saul narrowly beating Ozark.

Ozark follows the plights of Marty Byrde and his family after moving to the Ozark mountains. Why did they move to the Ozarks? A massive mistake that put them in debt to a massive drug lord, of course!

The show centers around the Byrde family, their attempts at connecting with each other, and their survival against a drug kingpin.

Who Would Enjoy This

If you’re a fan of crime dramas/thrillers, there’s no way you won’t enjoy Ozark. From its superb storytelling to amazing acting direction, any crime fan will fall in love with this show. And if you liked Breaking Bad, you’ll most likely like Ozark as well.

2. Stranger Things

The Synopsis

What happens if you get the 80’s aesthetic with modern horror storytelling? You’d get Stranger Things, arguable Netflix’s crowning achievement amongst their original shows.

Stranger Things follows a group of kids and their foray into a world filled with government experiments and paranormal phenomena. Going 3 seasons strong, Stranger Things may soon earn a place among the “classics”.

Who Would Enjoy This

Any horror fan would enjoy Stranger Things, though I find that most people who don’t enjoy horror still enjoy Stranger Things. I think it’s a result of Netflix making the show accessible to most of its audience. Honestly, this show is perfect for anyone.

3. The Witcher

The Synopsis

The Witcher, based on a book series of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski, follows Geralt of Rivia, a Witcher, a being trained to hunt and kill monsters and beasts.

The show, while taking a few creative liberties, mostly follows the rhythm of the first book, seeing Geralt fight beasts, get himself roped into the affairs of the locals, and make some unlikely allies.

Who Would Enjoy This

Fantasy fans will have a field day with this show. Not only does The Witcher fill the void of a good medieval-fantasy show, it uses its gritty setting and mature themes in a way that’s not overbearing.

4. A Series of Unfortunate Events

The Synopsis

The Baudelaire children are anything but fortunate, and the—aptly-named—show A Series of Unfortunate Events highlights this in charming, yet excruciating detail.

ASOUF follows the Baudelaire children in their search for their parents, all the while avoiding their evil uncle Count Olaf, who would love nothing more than to get his hands on their fortune.

Who Would Enjoy This

I enjoyed this show because I used to read ASOUF all the time as a kid. If you did the same, you won’t be disappointed by Netflix’s take on the series. And if you’re into a charming, gorgeous show, you could do a lot worse than ASOUF.

5. Black Mirror

The Synopsis

Anthology series are all rage nowadays, and that surge in popularity can be attributed to Black Mirror, a Netflix original focusing on different scenarios of how technology can be used for evil, including weaponizing social media, blackmailing government officials, and being able to mute someone in real life.

Who Would Enjoy This

If you’re into almost-dystopian series or want to see the ways technology can be abused. The show is entertaining, sure, but what’s even more interesting is seeing the ways in which society can benefit and suffer from advancements in technology.

Conclusion

Just because we’re locked in quarantine doesn’t mean we can’t have fun and entertain ourselves! And it just so happens that Netflix is one of the best ways to do so. With hundreds of shows and movies, Netflix will never let you get bored!
