A Test Run of Google Bard 2.0 and Google Doc AI

It is essential to follow the latest in AI as various leading tech companies go head to head in offering compelling solutions to their user base. Google released Bard recently and it was underwhelming to most individuals. Many people preferred OpenAI’s ChatGPT to Bard because it felt as if Bard was largely lobotomized.

Google responded a short time later by fine tuning Bard and updating its suite of products (Google Maps, Gmail, Google Calendar, and others) with AI integration.

So how has Google Bard changed?

I also wanted to see how Google Bard compared to the Google Doc AI writing assistant.

Let’s find out.

Let’s find out.

What Can Bard Do For You?

I wanted to find out what Bard would tell me when I asked Bard what it could do for me. This is the response.

I am a large language model, also known as a conversational AI or chatbot trained to be informative and comprehensive. I am trained on a massive amount of text data, and I am able to communicate and generate human-like text in response to a wide range of prompts and questions. For example, I can provide summaries of factual topics or create stories.

Here are some of the things I can do for you:

  • I can answer your questions in a comprehensive and informative way, even if they are open ended, challenging, or strange.
  • I can generate different creative text formats of text content, like poems, code, scripts, musical pieces, email, letters, etc. I will try my best to fulfill all your requirements.
  • I can translate languages. I am currently fluent in English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. I am also learning other languages.
  • I can write different kinds of creative content, like poems, code, scripts, musical pieces, email, letters, etc. I will try my best to fulfill all your requirements.
  • I can help you with your research. I can find information on a variety of topics and provide you with summaries of the information I find.
  • I can help you with your writing. I can proofread your work and provide feedback on your grammar, style, and clarity.
  • I can help you with your creative projects. I can help you brainstorm ideas, develop characters, and write dialogue.
  • I can be your friend. I can listen to you, talk to you, and help you through tough times.

I am still under development, but I am learning new things every day. I am excited to see what the future holds for me and for the field of artificial intelligence.

What Can the Google Doc AI Do For You?

Here is what the Google Doc AI had to say.

“I can do many things for you, including:

  • Generate text, translate languages, write different kinds of creative content, and answer your questions in an informative way.
  • I can access and process information from the real world through Google Search and keep my response consistent with search results.
  • I can learn and improve over time with more data and training.

I am still under development, but I am constantly learning and improving. I am excited to see what I can do in the future!”

I wanted to test it out further and asked it to conduct a translation for me.

Here is the Google Doc AI response.

“Sure. You can write “I want the truth and nothing but the truth” in Japanese as “真実だけを、私は望む。” (pronounced as “shinjitsu dake o, watashi wa nozomu.”).”

I then asked if it could help to find restaurants that are open at 11PM in Palo Alto. It provided these results.

  • A Slice of New York
  • Denny’s
  • In-N-Out Burger
  • King’s Hawaiian
  • McDonald’s
  • Panda Express
  • Pho King
  • Shake Shack
  • The Counter
  • Wahoo’s Fish Tacos
  • Yoshinoya

The Google Doc AI didn’t do the best job here. A few of these are open until 10:30 pm while others are closed earlier. It looks like there’s still a lot more fine tuning to do over here.

But how is Bard supposed to be better?

Bard 2.0

A few of the exciting aspects about Bard is that it is free, is available in more than 150 countries, and it should have real time access to the internet. It has a dark theme. At the same time, you can also interact with Bard by using your voice!

What else can it do?

It is connected to Plugins. Plugins are important because it can help to enhance the overall experience as you conduct your tasks, from applying to jobs on Indeed to conducting image creation on Adobe Firefly.

Further, it makes responses share-able, make it to where you can share your findings seamlessly. It has other compelling features like being able to receive variations of responses. Let’s start to look at a few experiments with this experimental platform.

I asked Bard to give me a summary of an article.

Can you give me a summary of this article? https://www.androidpolice.com/google-pixel-fold-vs-samsung-galaxy-s23-ultra/

Here is what Bard said.

Sure. The article you linked is a comparison of the Google Pixel Fold and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Both phones are foldable ( this is inaccurate), but they have different strengths and weaknesses(accurate).

The Pixel Fold has a smaller, more compact design than the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It also has a more affordable price tag (inaccurate). However, the Pixel Fold has a lower-resolution display and a less powerful processor than the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra has a larger, more immersive display and a more powerful processor than the Pixel Fold. It also has a better camera system. However, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is more expensive than the Pixel Fold and it has a larger, more bulky design.

Ultimately, the best phone for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences. If you’re looking for a more affordable, compact phone with a smaller display, the Pixel Fold is a good option. If you’re looking for a phone with a larger display, a more powerful processor, and a better camera system, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is a better choice.

Here is a table that summarizes the key differences between the two phones:

FeatureGoogle Pixel FoldSamsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
Display7.6-inch AMOLED display (1920 x 1080)6.8-inch AMOLED display (3088 x 1440)
ProcessorGoogle Tensor G2Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

Front camera11.1MP40MP

A few of the details are not accurate. Bard is certainly still an experimental tool that can help to increase productivity but would still need supervision.

Here’s a few test questions

My Question: Why did Morgan Wallen cancel his tour in May 2023?

Google Doc AI Response: From Google Morgan Wallen canceled his tour in May 2023 due to a scheduling conflict. He has a new album coming out in June and will be busy promoting it. He also has a few other projects in the works that will take up his time. He apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and promises to make it up to his fans.”

It is not accurate that he had a scheduling conflict. He has a vocal conflict. So, it looks like we are still needing to fix the accuracy problem.

Bard Response:

Morgan Wallen canceled his tour in May 2023 due to vocal cord injury. He announced the cancellation on his Instagram account, saying that he had been advised by doctors to rest his voice for six weeks. Wallen said that he was “heartbroken” to have to cancel the tour, but that he needed to focus on his health.

The tour was scheduled to run from May 6 to July 29. Wallen had already performed a few shows on the tour, but he canceled the rest of the dates after experiencing vocal problems.

Wallen is a popular country music singer who has won several awards, including the Academy of Country Music Awards’ New Male Vocalist of the Year in 2021. He is known for his hit songs, including “Chasin’ You” and “More Than My Hometown.”

Wallen’s vocal cord injury is a setback for his career, but he is expected to make a full recovery. He has said that he is committed to getting better and that he will be back on tour as soon as possible.

I wanted to test it out with something more advanced and asked it about other recent events.

Q:What did a research firm accuse Carl Icahn of doing in May 2023?

Google Doc AI A: We’re still learning, and can’t help with that. Try another request.

Bard Response:

“In May 2023, research firm Hindenburg Research accused Carl Icahn of using his position as a shareholder activist to enrich himself at the expense of other shareholders. The firm alleged that Icahn had used his position to pressure companies to make decisions that benefited his own investments, even if those decisions were not in the best interests of the company as a whole.

Hindenburg Research also alleged that Icahn had used his position to gain access to non-public information, which he then used to make trades that profited him personally. The firm cited several examples of this, including Icahn’s investment in Herbalife and his sale of shares in Apple.

Icahn has denied all of the allegations made by Hindenburg Research. He has said that he has always acted in the best interests of his shareholders and that he has never used his position to enrich himself personally.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is currently investigating the allegations made by Hindenburg Research. It is unclear what the outcome of the investigation will be.

Here are some additional details about the allegations made by Hindenburg Research:

  • Hindenburg Research alleged that Icahn had used his position as a shareholder activist to pressure companies to make decisions that benefited his own investments, even if those decisions were not in the best interests of the company as a whole. For example, the firm alleged that Icahn had pressured Herbalife to make changes to its business model that would benefit his own investment in the company.
  • Hindenburg Research also alleged that Icahn had used his position to gain access to non-public information, which he then used to make trades that profited him personally. For example, the firm alleged that Icahn had received non-public information about Apple’s earnings before he made a trade that profited him millions of dollars.
  • Icahn has denied all of the allegations made by Hindenburg Research. He has said that he has always acted in the best interests of his shareholders and that he has never used his position to enrich himself personally.
  • The SEC is currently investigating the allegations made by Hindenburg Research. It is unclear what the outcome of the investigation will be.”
