How To Prevent Coronavirus

“COVID-19 doesn’t discriminate. It has no religious, ideological, racial bias. It does have one common enemy, us, and it is up to us to come together and meet it with all the considerable force of human compassion and ingenuity”—Andrew McLuhan

There are differing views on the coronavirus, and some are preparing like it is doomsday while others are shrugging it off as the common cold or flu. The truth lies somewhere in the middle. As I’ve talked about with previous articles, what is most alarming is the financial measures instituted by the government to re-ignite the economy.

We haven’t seen a series of significant financial stimuli since the Great Financial Crisis in 2008/2009.

Central bankers across the world are coordinating to conduct swaps, keep credit thriving, and businesses afloat with varying measures. The stock market is falling due to lack of confidence, margin calls, and other factors. But there is only so much you can do when it comes to the bigger picture, how can you focus on preventing coronavirus or COVID-19?

Let’s find out.

Common Questions

What are the Symptoms of Coronavirus?

According to the CDC, you may experience:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Difficulty breathing

Can People Contract Both the Coronavirus and Regular Influenza?

A person may contract both influenza and coronavirus, but this does not seem to be the case in a majority of situations.

Will the Coronavirus Stay with us Until 2021?

This is a tricky one. The Guardian just released a report that states that the U.K coronovirus crisis may last until spring 2021. If that is true, that would be troubling in more ways than one. The report also indicates that if this scenario were to play out it would mean that more than 7 million people would contract the issue and find themselves in a hospital setting. What’s concerning is that the Guardian report indicates that this is a genuine possibility :

“The coronavirus epidemic in the UK will last until next spring and could lead to 7.9 million people being hospitalised, a secret Public Health England (PHE) briefing for senior NHS officials reveals.” While alarming, it makes sense as the cases in Spain and Italy demonstrate, if the situation is not contained properly, it could grow at an exponential rate.

What Can I Do to Prevent the Coronavirus?

It is essential to practice the right caution to prevent viral issues.

1. Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently while singing your ABC’s.

2. Don’t touch your face.

3. Social distance. Only go out to the necessary places and stay 3 feet away from others.

4. Don’t hoard items such as cleaning supplies and hygiene products. Remember that if you prevent others from staying clean, you put yourself at risk.

5. Clean common areas regularly.

6. Seek medical attention if you notice symptoms. You can turn to in person visits or use Teladoc or other telemedicine features.

How Do Doctors Test for COVID-19?

Doctors will use throat swabs or nasal swabs.

I’m Under 40, Must I Practice COVID-19 Measures?

Yes, it would be best if you practiced the proper measures to fight COVID-19. If you are a carrier, you can cause harm to older people and not flatten the curve.

Stay Calm and Carry On

Above all, stay calm and carry on from a distance. People are finding ways to be creative, catch up on Netflix and shows like Curb your Enthusiasm by Larry David. Others are catching up on books and spending more time with their families. Remember that this too shall pass.
